Final Major Project - Frames

I have just been to The Range (I'm on a budget) and chosen my frames for my final pieces of work!!

I had a look at ALL of them and it was really hard choosing...

I initially thought these frames were too dark as there is black on my work and I didn't want to take away the effect of those by getting a very dark frame.

I really liked this frame, I was first drawn in as it was a light frame but also that it had a mount inside already. The only problem was that this frame was quite thick and heavy so I was worried about mounting it to the boards which we will be using in the final show.

As soon as I saw this frame, I loved it. The wood isn't too dark so I am hoping it will compliment my work. The frame is also very light weight and thin but I think it looks quite expensive and professional!
I also think the wood used to make this frame looks the most natural, which goes along with my whole project of being inspired by the natural world!

The only problem which I could find was the mount inside is quite dark so I have bought a slightly lighter (not white) mount to replace this one.

Final Major Project - Decisions!

These are the three pieces I have been working on as final artwork...

I love the first two but I cannot get the purple one perfect so I am going to be using the Blue and Orange pieces at my finals. I feel the yellow flower will not cut out nicely on Photoshop as the others have and the leaf also does not work very well. It's hard to explain how I feel that the top two look finished and I cannot get this one up to their standards so I would prefer to just have two good pieces that I am happy with rather than ruin it for myself by adding the third into the show.

I do think that these two also work better as a set, they are both portrait but very different pieces of work. The colours are different but I think they compliment each other as there is blue in both of them. I also like the way I have two pieces where I have created different background, the orange tissue paper is portrait and the blue is landscape.

I am very happy with the decision I have made.

Final Major Project - Postcards

My postcards have arrived!! I am really pleased with them...

Final Major Project - Evaluation

I am very proud of how my project has gone, I think choosing a project where I could experiment has really meant that I have worked hard as I find almost playing with the materials around me makes me enjoy the work immensely.  If I was to change anything I would have spent more time developing my artwork towards the final collages, but I do believe that experimenting right up to the last minute of the project has really pushed me to develop further and further.

Another thing I would change is that to the most part I stuck to what I knew where my tissue paper backgrounds are concerned, partly because I was safe there and knew I loved the outcome of this process, I did experiment slightly with the tissue paper collages but nothing which stuck and I actually thought, yeah I like that.

I feel I have achieved exactly what I set out to do which was a project of experimentation with final outcomes being inspired by the natural world. The artists which I have chosen to research really almost helped me through the project and kept giving me that extra push for ideas and inspiration.

I have learnt about colour through experimentation and what goes well together which is another aim I set out to achieve.

My final outcomes, though as confusing and frustrating they were to produce and decide which would actually be my finals, I am so proud of them and I feel I have done myself justice in this project as this is what I enjoy doing. Though the outcomes are not what I thought I may come up with, I am pleased that they are not. They are a product of experimentation.

Final Major Project - Photoshop

I am worried that the cut out effect with the white of the paper still left on to the collages may be taking away from the expressive nature of the line so I have looked into using Photoshop’s layers to put the collages together. I have used the magic wand and background eraser tool to get rid of all of the white of the background to just leave my black ink drawing. I then adjusted the brightness and contrast to make my drawings back to their original blackness which they had lost during scanning.

I am very impressed with the work I have done on Photoshop. I feel it looks quite professional but I am still unsure of whether I prefer the handmade version or the photo shopped version. So I have stuck them next to each other to try and compare and I am currently talking to as many people as I can using my Facebook account to see what the majority prefer and why.

Final Major Project - Starting Finals

I have started to create some background artwork for my final illustrations.
These are created using ripped up tissue paper (as seen in my experimental work) and PVA glue. I have created the pattern by layering the paper as once the PVA is applied, the tissue paper becomes more transparent so we can see the underneath layers.
I have taken my experiments into consideration and used the colours which I believe work well together for my finals here.
I have used canvas blocks as a base for the collages as I also like the texture you can slightly see from using the canvas:

I am pleased with my progress so far and  will now start collecting and creating the imagery and artwork to carry on with the collages.
