Final Major Project - Painting With Sticks

I have now decided to create some artwork which can be photocopied and used as part of my collages. I wanted to draw while looking at my primary research and being inspired by the natural world. 

Here I have started to draw but feel the work is too controlled:

I then moved on to using a brush pen but this did not create what I was hoping for as I think I was trying too hard which meant that the outcomes were very worried about and this shows in the work. 

So I then decided to collect some sticks and draw with a pot of drawing ink. This freed up my work and I think it works so much better as I was not worried about the outcome I was just enjoying the process and I believe it shows in the work:

Final Major Project - Experimenting with Paint

I have now started to experiment with what I can do with paint and tissue paper.

Here I have painted onto the tissue paper and then created pattern using it:

 

I then created pattern with the painted tissue paper, but created stencils and used different coloured spray paint to created shapes such as leaves and pine cones.

Final Major Project - 11 Collages

I was struggling with where to go with my project so I sat down with my tutor and he told me to relax, get all of my imagery together and have a play, so I promised to create 10 collages in a week (but I managed 11!)

This really helped with moving my project on as I have some of my own images to work with. I can also use the ideas I have created with this work towards developing the rest of my project and work. 

Final Major Project - Initial Imagery

I have started to create some imagery to get my project started.

I have been inspired by my own work from previous projects and also that of my artist research.

 

I created these with tissue paper, using colours inspired by the natural world. I want this project to be based around colour but inspired by nature.

Final Major Project - Primary Research

I went for a walk in the woods to gather some inspiration and primary research, I took photographs and on the walk and also collected natural objects...

I tried to scan in a few of these objects but as they are not flat they quality of the image wasn't great as you can see in the image below:

So I took some good quality photographs instead:

I then looked for inspiration, and found some artists which both fitted in with my project idea and inspired me visually.

Final Major Project

I have been working towards my Final Major Project at uni so I thought I should update my blog !

"An experimental project that will look at surface pattern in both figurative and abstract aspects. The resulting  outcomes will be a product of experimentation with collaged and drawn elements that fuse colour, shape, line, text and pictorial elements that might be used or applied in a variety of contexts."
